Meet the founder
Cynthia Miller, PMHNP-BC
Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Established in 2021, my practice is built on the foundation of exceptional psychiatric care, prioritizing empathy and patient empowerment. My dedication to mental health was inspired by my two military deployments to Afghanistan as a medic, where I observed firsthand the profound cultural impacts on mental health for the people of Afghanistan. When my military unit returned home, I experienced personally as well as watched my fellow service members struggle with reintegration into normal life. These experiences ignited a lifelong curiosity about mental health.
During my pediatric rotation in nursing school, I recognized that psychiatry was my true calling, as I was deeply intrigued by the interfamily dynamics affecting pediatric patients. After graduating from nursing school, I worked on the inpatient psychiatry unit at ECMC, gaining invaluable experience with some of the most severe mental health disorders.
Upon completing the nurse practitioner program, I started working at a community mental health practice in the south towns, where I treated adult populations with diagnoses ranging from substance abuse to schizophrenia and anxiety. Subsequently, I worked for one of the larger community mental health organizations in WNY, providing care to children and adults alike. I treated a wide range of clients ranging from substance use treatment, the severely mentally ill, children, and various other psychiatric diagnoses. Since starting my practice in 2021, I have continued to treat a broad spectrum of mental health conditions, and I genuinely enjoy working with diverse disorders.
In 2025, I began weekend coverage for the inpatient psychiatry units at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital, which helps me stay current with acute psychiatry management. Additionally, I run the opiate dependence clinic at the Golisano Center in Niagara Falls. Opiate addiction has been an area of special interest for many years, as I find this work both challenging and highly rewarding.
Throughout my military, nursing, and nurse practitioner career, I have consistently engaged in teaching. My affinity for education began during my military service, where I taught various medical courses to fighter pilots. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching students from D’Youville University and Daemen College. One of the highlights of owning my practice is guiding and mentoring nurse practitioners. We hold regular meetings to discuss complex cases and review treatment options. I look forward to these meetings as it gives me the opportunity to teach and guide other nurse practitioners.
When I am not in the clinic or buried in a new psychiatry journal, my life is beautifully full. As a single mother to three young children, I personally understand the complex struggle of balancing a demanding career with family life. I know that "wellness" isn't just a clinical goal, it’s a daily practice of finding balance amidst the chaos.
I am at my happiest in the outdoors and with my children. Whether I’m hiking a new trail, kayaking, or scouting out a unique Airbnb for a weekend getaway, I find peace in nature. I am almost always accompanied by my German Shepherd, who is arguably my best friend and constant companion.
Whether I am navigating a complex clinical case, mentoring the next generation of practitioners, or exploring a new trail with my family, my focus remains the same: fostering resilience and honoring the human experience. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the Western New York Community and to walk alongside my patients as they reclaim their mental wellness.
